A Springtime Runway Look for Less!

Pair this basic T with some cute cut-off shorts for a cute spring or summer look! If you need new stylish shorts and you're on a budg, take your your old worn out jeans and make them hott new cut-offs :)
Here's how:
1. Find the jeans. If you can't dig up an old pair of jeans that still fit, buy a pair off a clearance rack or at a thrift store.
2. Cut the legs off. Cut a bit lower than the desired length. The extra length will be taken off while you are making the length of the legs even, or when you're fraying the ends. For extra fraying, use the sharp end of a pair of scissors or another pointed tool to rip off the legs. (Optional steps, for a more vintage look)
3. Bleach the shorts. Throw them in the bathtub or a bucket, and fill with enough water so that your shorts are completely submerged. Pour 1-2 cups of bleach in the tub, and slosh the water around the tub to mix in the bleach. Wear gloves. Let the shorts sit in the bleach water until they are the desired color. Depending on the desired color and the initial color, this could take a couple days or a couple hours. When the shorts are done bleaching, rinse them out. If you don't wash the shorts, the bleach will continue to fade the color. You may wish to skip this step if you use an old pair of jeans that already faded to the desired color.
4. Let the shorts sit in mud water or coffee grounds. To get the "dirty" in dirty denim, try one of these three methods:
- Mud water method: To get the mud water, put some loose clumps of dirt in a bucket, fill the bucket with water, slosh it around, and pour the water off into another bucket big enough to hold your shorts folded up. Don’t just mix dirt and water together; the dirt will settle out. Keep checking on the shorts until they are stained enough. Remember, the shorts will be a lighter color when they are dry.
- Coffee ground method: This method will last longer. In a bucket, use about two cups of coffee grounds and enough water to turn them into a liquid. The more water you add, the lighter the stain will be. Place the jeans in a bucket and let it sit overnight.
- While working on your car, bicycle, or garden, wipe your hands on the shorts.
6. Spin the water out of the shorts. Put the shorts on a spin cycle setting in your washer. Dry the shorts either on on clothesline or a dryer. 7. Distress the shorts. To fray the edges, run a steak knife over them. To make holes, put something hard, like a cement block, under the spot where you want the hole, then sand it. This process can take a while, but provides the most yielding results. A sharp object is quicker, but not as rewarding. The holes will start fraying after the next wash.
